The Space Deck system was developed in the early 1950s by Space Deck, UK. The first system outside of the UK was erected in Burma in 1954. This system was made of shop-fabricated inverted pyramids with top chords and four diagonal bracings members. The units were connected to each other using tie members and bolts. The lower grid bars had threaded ends in one direction (one left-hand and one right-hand) which screwed directly into the tapped holes in the pyramid bosses.  In the other direction tapped hexagonal coupling pieces were used at the end of the tie bars to screw onto the protruding studs of the bosses.
